Founded by Paradigm and Stripe, Tempo is a blockchain for real world payments that is destined to set new standards in the industry. Designed specifically for stablecoin transactions, Tempo delivers the speed, efficiency and scalability required for global payments at scale. Studio Dumbar/DEPT® worked in close collaboration with Paradigm’s Veit Moeller and Matt Huang to create a brand identity reflecting Tempo’s unique transaction capabilities.
Humble in its role as a provider yet confident in its potential, Tempo will play a defining role in the future of global payments. The brand should therefore be outspoken and distinctive, expressing the core idea driving its growth: sharing the huge potential and benefits of its technology with consumers – from developers, entrepreneurs and global brands to banks, government and beyond. Our strategic mindset was shaped by a need to reflect this technological breakthrough while remaining direct and grounded.
Tempo’s foundation of speed and advanced technology shaped the design concept for the identity. Expressing forward momentum and stability, the wordmark is supported by a standalone ’T’ for social avatars and favicons. The supporting graphic style utilises the custom Tempo typeface and tailor-made software which expands the width of the letterforms, from regular to extremely wide. Dynamic and versatile, the extended wordmark echoes the movement of cross-border payments through space and time, reflecting the connectivity and complexity of payment lanes and the seamless transfer of value. Developed in tandem with motion, a distinct sonic identity amplifies the brand’s momentum, accelerates its energy, and elevates the compositions. With its crisp typography and pared-back colour palette, the all-encompassing brand identity includes typefaces, colours, image style, toolkits, guidelines, a brand movie, and a website (built in collaboration with Hello Monday/DEPT®).
The Tempo identity embodies a product that will redefine the future of money transfers. A comprehensive design package incorporates tailor-made motion and design software, enabling in-house designers to create an endless variety of compositions while maintaining a cohesive visual language.
